14 weeks no hair color-my journey into going gray

Welcome to my weekly update on my adventure into going grey.  It's been 14 weeks since I've had my hair colored.   Before leaving for work this morning, Vic said she liked my hair and that you could really see the gray coming in. Some people may be upset if their spouse pointed this out..I remember thinking that the first time Vic mentioned all the grey coming in (this was prior to my decision to let it go grey) but instead of being upset about it I was sparked with something close to pride. I see grey hair as something earned I guess lol.  I have a new obsession to look at my ever growing roots when I walk by a mirror. I scour my friends facebook pictures that have grey hair and think they are even more beautiful now.

My hair was dry and looking good this morning and then it started pouring. Now the frizz has started and it looks a bit more wild. Gotta love the Florida humidity.
I'm thinking of making an appointment to get my hair trimmed. This is the longest I've gone in years without getting my hair trimmed up too. I love the longer hair so I can wear it pulled back or up when it's hot or I have a bad hair day.
Ok, I feel like I've talked about my hair enough for this week haha! I am trying to make more videos so I may add a video to this at some point...we shall see.

Aromatherapy Eye Pillows

I've recently become a Brand Ambassador for Natures Inspirations. I love the soap and the Himalayan salt lamps but when my friend Emma told me about her experience with the eye pillows I figured I  should try one. I have suffered from allergy's  and headaches since my early teens.

It was the perfect weekend to  get mine in the mail since I was sick with a cold and could not have felt worse.  I kept it on my night stand and used it every time I went in for a little nap. The scent was not over whelming but strong enough that it relaxed me. I loved the weight of the pillow on my eyes. I usually don't sleep on my back but was able to fall asleep in this position many times over the weekend just by laying down for a few minutes with my eye pillow in place.

Week 13 with no hair color

Another week into my all natural hair. No hair color/grey cover up for 13 weeks.  A co-worker mentioned it yesterday but not sure if she just noticed or if she has  read the blog or heard me talking about it.  My mom suggested silver high lights this week , again not sure if it's because she thinks it looks bad or just a suggestion during the growing in stage.   I personally like seeing the grey coming in, I do wish it was all over already thou..I think I'm really going to love it!

Confession time, I only wash my hair about once or twice a week. I have super thick hair and it takes forever to dry and style.  The good thing is that it stays looking the same all week with very little fuss since I've grown it long.  I do use products in it , (dry shampoo, root lifter, hair oil etc) but really spend very little time messing with my hair.  I own about 8 curling irons, hot rollers etc. but they don't get much use. This week I did buy a fat barrel curling iron and used it twice but didn't really care for it. My favorite curling iron is one Vic gave me for xmas a few years ago.  It sucks a small strand of hair in and makes perfect spiral curls.

I got the wig that I ordered off of Ebay this week.  I don't like it. It doesn't fit comfortably and I don't like the very dark  roots/top part of the wig. I should have gotten a lighter color all over and probably shorter. Not sure I'll order another one...because now I know.

Weekly Hair Update

I missed my weekly update yesterday due to a wet mess at my house. But here we go ....week four of my hair updates! :)

It has now been 12 weeks since I have had my hair colored. I wasn't thinking at the time that it would be my last but as the universe often works things just lined up for me that way.  When it was time for my next appointment my hair dresser had something going on with her family and had to cancel. Then by the time my next appointment came along I had just started thinking about going natural so I canceled the appointment to give me more time to think about it.

Recently, I started looking for hairstyles that I liked and made a new Pinterest board to save them on. One of my friends commented on this board on my facebook page and now my dear friend Heide that has done my hair for 20+ years knows about my grey project. To say that she is not on board is an understatement. I love her dearly but doubt I'll change her thinking on this one.  It will be ok. :)

I went out to dinner with my sister for her birthday last week and my hair adventure came up. My mom even said that she is thinking about doing the same thing! I love the support. Lord knows I've gone though many hair styles/colors during my life and not always the best look or choices.  The great thing about hair..it grows back. I remember wanting to shave it when Sinead O'Connor was popular but Heide explained to me that not everyone has a pretty head and few would look as beautiful as Sinead did.  Ok I'm thankful that I didn't shave it off but after seeing some of my friends battle cancer and lose their hair I have yet to see an ugly bald head.

I look forward to taking these pictures every week to see how much my hair has changed.

Being Authentic

Another week into my journey of going natural and being my authentic self.  It's now been 11 weeks since I've had my hair colored.  I've noticed in taking these pictures that I don't know how to part my hair..lol

Vic and I were on our way to the grocery store I believe , I had my hair pulled back and she mentioned how much silver was showing at my temple area. It started me thinking and when I got home I googled going grey, no more hair color, and things like that. I was surprised at how many blogs and videos I found on the subject.

I decided that I would like to do this. I now do weekly blogs (every Wednesday) with an update on my hair so I can see the  transformation.

My daily affirmation card today fit perfectly with my weekly blog.

Roots

I could go on and on with the titles of movies and plays that could work for this  hair blog..Hair, Roots, 50 Shades of Grey, ha!

Weekly hair update. I was wrong last week when I said that it was week 10 without hair color..today is actually week 10.  I did a side by side to show the difference in the roots so far. I wear my  hair pulled back in a head band or up with a hair clip a lot of the time so for me it's not super noticeable -but then again I'm a person that doesn't look at or notice the back of my hair either so maybe everyone else is noticing and just not mentioning my grey roots.

Vic and I went to church last Sunday. The church has a big screen up front that shows the words to the songs and at one point a video take from the back of the church pointed at the congregation, I was shocked when I noticed myself up on the big screen and how long my hair is from the back!

More pictures from the last week:
