Nine Month Update!

I have now been on this hair journey for nine months. The last time I had color or high lights added to my locks was April 2015. I have saved hundreds of dollars and many hours sitting in the chair having chemicals put on my hair.

Last month was the first time I felt a little in a funk and considered calling and setting up an appointment for some highlights. It has passed and and I'm back on track. I told my friend/hair dresser that I want to make it to the one year mark and then we can talk again about going forward. I do love seeing the silver and am enjoying natural highlights.

I will start with photos from today and then show the progress since day one. I have gotten my hair cut two or three times now-each time a little shorter. I loved my long hair and will probably go back to it but I must say this short  style is so easy for me and I like the sassy feel of it.
I know that from the front you can not even tell sometimes that I have grey hair at all, I can , but when I post pictures to my friends that know I'm doing this they comment that it doesn't look grey. I guess that is a good thing although I'm excited for it to be all grey. If I hate it I can go back and add color but I don't think I will.

37 weeks dye free, hair update!

I have not done an update on my hair since November , it's now been 37 weeks since I have colored my hair in my journey into going grey naturally.
I am 48 years old and decided almost 9 months ago that I would like to stop coloring my hair and let nature take over with the silver highlights. I am enjoying the journey. I have gotten my hair cut  twice since I started this and have another appointment this month. I   am keeping it about the same length now but go in for a trim and to keep my bangs under control. This is a very easy style for me, I just wash it and let it go. When I'm ready to  go out I use the straightening iron on it and I'm good to go. I'm not one to spend much time on  hair or make up..I think it takes me about 10 minutes to get out the door in the morning after I get dressed.

Anyway..here are todays photos.

19 weeks dye free hair update

For those of you that have not been here before, I am letting my hair grey naturally and stopping all hair color (high lights and dyes) It's been 19 weeks since I last had my hair colored and almost as long since a cut (I did have bangs trimmed up in May 2015) Last week I finally made an appointment to get it trimmed up but no color much to my long time friend and hair dressers distress . My hair appointment got changed to tomorrow so  it's still the same length as last week. I've been going back and forth with myself on how much I'm going to get cut off tomorrow so it will be as much of a surprise for me as it is for you.

Todays pictures...

I wear it up often because it's so hot and humid here and I enjoy the breeze on my neck.

15 Weeks Dye Free (Hair Update)

Hello! This marks the 15 week mark of no hair color.   Vic made the comment this week that my hair is more interesting now.

I did order the silver hair chalk this week , it should be here mid August. I thought with that I could draw streaks all the way thru so it doesn't show up as just silver roots. We shall see, and i will share. I'd like to share the wig pictures but it's just too awful lol ...

Taken yesterday, work bathroom really shows the silver coming in!

14 weeks no hair color-my journey into going gray

Welcome to my weekly update on my adventure into going grey.  It's been 14 weeks since I've had my hair colored.   Before leaving for work this morning, Vic said she liked my hair and that you could really see the gray coming in. Some people may be upset if their spouse pointed this out..I remember thinking that the first time Vic mentioned all the grey coming in (this was prior to my decision to let it go grey) but instead of being upset about it I was sparked with something close to pride. I see grey hair as something earned I guess lol.  I have a new obsession to look at my ever growing roots when I walk by a mirror. I scour my friends facebook pictures that have grey hair and think they are even more beautiful now.

My hair was dry and looking good this morning and then it started pouring. Now the frizz has started and it looks a bit more wild. Gotta love the Florida humidity.
I'm thinking of making an appointment to get my hair trimmed. This is the longest I've gone in years without getting my hair trimmed up too. I love the longer hair so I can wear it pulled back or up when it's hot or I have a bad hair day.
Ok, I feel like I've talked about my hair enough for this week haha! I am trying to make more videos so I may add a video to this at some point...we shall see.

Weekly Hair Update

I missed my weekly update yesterday due to a wet mess at my house. But here we go ....week four of my hair updates! :)

It has now been 12 weeks since I have had my hair colored. I wasn't thinking at the time that it would be my last but as the universe often works things just lined up for me that way.  When it was time for my next appointment my hair dresser had something going on with her family and had to cancel. Then by the time my next appointment came along I had just started thinking about going natural so I canceled the appointment to give me more time to think about it.

Recently, I started looking for hairstyles that I liked and made a new Pinterest board to save them on. One of my friends commented on this board on my facebook page and now my dear friend Heide that has done my hair for 20+ years knows about my grey project. To say that she is not on board is an understatement. I love her dearly but doubt I'll change her thinking on this one.  It will be ok. :)

I went out to dinner with my sister for her birthday last week and my hair adventure came up. My mom even said that she is thinking about doing the same thing! I love the support. Lord knows I've gone though many hair styles/colors during my life and not always the best look or choices.  The great thing about hair..it grows back. I remember wanting to shave it when Sinead O'Connor was popular but Heide explained to me that not everyone has a pretty head and few would look as beautiful as Sinead did.  Ok I'm thankful that I didn't shave it off but after seeing some of my friends battle cancer and lose their hair I have yet to see an ugly bald head.

I look forward to taking these pictures every week to see how much my hair has changed.

50 Shades of Grey

Before you get all excited..this blog isn't going to be about the movie or the books.
I made a pretty big decision last week.
I am going to stop coloring my hair and go natural. The last time I  had my grey touched up was April 22 2015  so we are going on about 10 weeks now with no color.   I don't have the skunk thing going on yet, I took some pictures this morning to see how much is showing right now.

Not so bad.   I've researched youtube and the Internet and found tons of videos/blogs about this very subject. Who knew going grey and giving up hair color was a thing? I feel even better about my decision hearing about how empowering it has made other women feel.

The first person I told was my mom. I was all ready for her to give her opinion..she has not been shy over the years to tell me about my hair being too blonde, too red, too brassy etc. so I  figured I would test out my level of commitment by seeing what mom would say. Shockingly she was very supportive! (and I think a bit envious )

Then I emailed Vic. Again..total support! Her only request was that she hoped I wouldn't cut it off. Since I'm enjoying my longer locks, I don't think this request will be hard to fulfill.
Next came my childhood girlfriends..support but I got the feeling that none of them would even think of doing this and just chalked it up to me being weird. :)

I have not told my dear friend Heide, that has done my hair for nearly 30 years. I am most nervous about this conversation even thou I'm sure she can give me the best advice on how to go about this.  She is having a pretty upsetting life event right now so I don't want to bother her with this but will talk to her soon I'm sure. (sooner if she sees this blog lol)

I've been looking at wigs , Silver/Grey wigs became very trendy in 2014..who knew! Also there is hair chalk...I may just try some of these things...and when/if I do of course I'll share it with y'all.

For the people wanting to know "why". I could say it is to save money...I spend about $100 every  6 weeks or so coloring my  hair.  But that isn't why.
I could say it's because of not wanting to put the chemicals on my hair...going green , save the planet and all of that. It's not why, but I do appreciate those things.
I don't have one reason. I do like the idea of being my authentic self . I like the idea of not having to worry about getting to the hair dresser every six weeks (but I will probably still go so I can see Heide and catch up).

Life is an adventure and I am enjoying every turn!
