10 Good Things
Here's how it works:
Think of a particular group of good things you want to make a list on, does not necessarily have to be about books, e.g. your current book wish list, or your favorite book foods (you know, foods you love to eat while reading, if you're like me), or your favorite girly names, whatever you can think of, as long as it makes you feel good.
Go over and link up here at Brush Up On Your Reading
Everybody goes through the whole week happy!
My list this week is my next 10 movies on my netflix account. Let me know if you've seen them and if they are worth my wait!
1.Secretariat
2.Little Chenier: A cajun story
3.When In Rome
4.City Island
5.Killers
6.The World Unseen
7.Winters Bone
8.Chloe
9.Falling Up
10.High Art
Don't feel bad if you've never heard of them...I pick strange movies sometimes !

This week...
This week I've seen...
Zach Anner get his OWN show on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Actually both final contestants won their own show but I can't really see watching another cooking show, so Zach had my vote from week one! He's so funny and entertaining to watch. He will be hosting a show about travel.
Today I saw..
What a freaky movie! We went today because we are trying to fit in movies that will be up for awards tomorrow for the Oscars. I think Natalie Portman will win awards for this movie because the acting is brilliant but the movie itself left me saying "WTF" at the end...just didn't get it. But liked it.
Also this week I saw...
Miss Diana Ross on Oprah! She is fabulous as ever and I really enjoyed seeing a different side of her with her five kids and one grandson. What a neat lady!
Tomorrow (I just realized it's after midnight...so I should say "today") we are going to see The Kings Speech. We were going to fit both movies in yesterday but I was ready to get out and enjoy some sunshine! It was 80 degrees out and the outdoors was calling my name! We drove to the jettys and saw a bunch of sailboats out...I took a picture with my phone but it did not turn out that great.

Being online pays off!
Let me start by saying that I think computers are the BEST THING EVER! I am always plugged in. I have a computer at work, a laptop at home, and Internet access on my blackberry. It is very rare for me to be out of touch. I keep two facebook accounts (work and personal) , two twitters for the same reason, many email addresss but over the years have had everything sent to gmail so I don't have to chase emails down. You get the picture...I'm a junkie!
Just when my partner or family members start to get fed up with my time spent online something GREAT will come of it...I'll reach new clients, win something fabulous or get a better deal because of a deal made online!
Thanks to the Internet I have
Vic and I went to an art walk in May of 2009 in Sarasota and while googling my name for this blog I found our picture at that art walk!~

Saying Good Bye and Hello
Saying Good-Bye is never easy. As I walked away Saturday afternoon I couldn't help but wonder if she would miss us or wonder where we went and when we didn't return would she worry? When she saw us Sunday would she get all excited thinking we were there to pick her up again ? Did her heart break all over again when we drove off without her for the second time? What went thru her mind as we collected all of the things she had held for us for so long?
Vic said one of the saddest things was seeing her there among all the newer models looking so old and tired. I hope she goes to a good home and someone will appreciate and love her as much as we did!
Good Bye Ole Green...
and Hello New RED!

Days Like These..
What a great day this has been! In fact THIS is what all Saturdays should be like.
We woke up and decided to take the dogs to the dog park. We went first with the dachshunds. The last time we were there they barked at everyone and didn't really have any other little dogs to play with. Today, however the small dog area had a nice selection of pups. Dexter and DJ had such a good time! They still longed to be over with the big dogs and would run up and down the fence whenever anyone would walk by (by anyone I mean any dog). They barked but not nonstop like our first visit. Their tails never stopped wagging...so I think they were very happy boys!
It was such a good trip that we came home and thought we'd take the big dogs (Labradors) up to check it out too. Dakota about pulled Vic's arm off just walking to the gated area. We did not even get into the big dog area and Scout started doing his vicious bark. It was embarrassing! Anyone would be scared by him the way he looks and sounds when he's being that way! We turned around and hauled them right out of there. I'm sure people were looking at us and wondering why we would ever bring such a jerk to the dog park...but I swear he is the sweetest dog ever..he just acts up sometimes (today being one of those times!) I mean just look at that face!

So anyway...we let them go with us to get gas and then dropped them off at the house. We enjoyed a nice lunch at Panera Bread and mapped out our plans for the rest of the day not feeling guilty any more about not spending time out with the furchildren.
For the last few weeks we have been talking about buying or leasing a new car. Vic has done all the research online and we've stopped by the Ford Dealership a few times to have a look around. I've exchanged emails with a man named Gary for over a week now so we decided to go have a test drive on the SUV that we've been thinking about. To our surprise Gary told us to just take it over night and see if we liked it! So we spent the evening driving around town, by the beach and then on to cracker barrel for dinner. It is a great car! That was very smart of Gary because now it will be super hard not to keep this car! It is the color and make/model that we were looking for. It has only had one owner, is in excellent condition and is in our price range...what a deal!
I hope that everyone else had as good of a day as I did. Happy Saturday!!

What Did You Do This Week?
I made it thru another week of 2011! Can you believe it's the middle of February already?!
I was going to try and keep up a blog of what was going on in my life at least once a week but that just has not happened as of this time.
How about this week...I have
I was going to try and keep up a blog of what was going on in my life at least once a week but that just has not happened as of this time.
How about this week...I have
- Taken the dogs (the bigs) to the vet.
- Gone to Reb Lobster twice
- Called Comcast yet again for crappy reception
- Talked to every family member on the phone at least once
- Gave both labs a bath (actually a shower outside with the hose)
- Missed All My Children twice because my DVR is being a bitch
- Celebrated a friends birthday with her (hence the second visit to Red Lobster)
- Started following Rosie O'Donnel on twitter

For Colored Girls: Movie Review
Last night I watched "For Colored Girls". As soon as I first heard Tyler Perry talk about this movie I knew that I wanted to see it. I love his movies and have seen every one of them.
I knew that this movie would have some pretty serious issues but did not know what to expect. What I got was a movie that made me forget to breathe. I'd find myself holding my breath for much of the movie. To say it was intense would be an understatement!
The movie is based on Ntozake Shange's play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf." Unlike the original play which featured only 7 women known by colors ("Lady in Red", "Lady in Blue", etc.) performing the collection of 20 poems, the movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the poems deal with intense issues that particularly impact women in a thought-provoking commentary on what it means to be a female of color in the world.
The actresses in this movie were fantastic! The characters are represented by a color: Jo/Red (Janet Jackson), Juanita/Green (Loretta Devine), Yasmine/Yellow (Anika Noni Rose), Tangie/Orange (Thandie Newton), Alice/White (Whoopi Goldberg), Gilda/Gray (Phylicia Rashad), Crystal/Brown (Kimberly Elise), Nyla/Purple (Tessa Thompson), and Kelly/Blue (Kerry Washington). I think they all deserve awards!
This movie won't be for everyone. It deals with very serious issues including rape, abortion, infidelity. It's not a sit down and laugh movie like many of Tyler Perry movies with Madea to soften the blow of such issues. But it is a movie that makes you think or at least it made me think and I liked it. Hope you'll give it a chance and let me know what you thought!

Have you ever...
Gone to walmart and forgotten half of what you went there for?
Came home and realized you left a case of soda in the bottom of your shopping cart, in the parking lot?
Seen a guy peeing his pants in front of the store?
Not even been able to guess how much you spent when your partner asked you later?
Picked up the wrong kind of dogfood and not realize it until you are feeding it to your dogs the next day?
Forgot to pick up toilet paper when you only had one roll left at home?
Yep...that was my night...in the rain. Getting old sucks.

Super Bowl
Did you watch?
I don't know much about football. I cheer for the cowboys because that is Vic's team. I rarely stay interested in a whole game.
Saturday night we were coming home from dinner out with friends and I suggested going to a movie on Sunday instead of watching the super bowl. O.M.G. you would have thought I had suggested killing one of the furchildren or something. Who knew it was such a big deal! lol
So Sunday comes and we sit around watching the pre-game and all that stuff. The chick from glee gets onstage to sing and I start tearing up....why must I always cry at sporting events! I get prepared for the tears to start flowing when the national anthem is sung and then as I sit there listening, I say to Vic.."Didn't Christina Aguilera just mess up the words to the song?! She did!!!" Ok so the tears didn't come this year.
I stayed glued to the TV for the entire game! That is something that just never happens. I could not risk missing those great commericals! My favorite i think was the kid in the darth vader outfit. My least favorite was the firestone commercial when they guy thought he sent the email to the entire company....funny idea but what does that have to do with tires? The dorito commercials were cute, and I am still kinda creeped out by Joan Rivers as the Go Daddy girl..lol...
Then comes half time. I made the mistake of logging on to my facebook (from my phone) and saying how much I love Fergie and what a great half time show. For the rest of the game my phone dinged every time someone left a comment on that status. I ended up with almost 30 comments about that! Seems most people didn't agree with me , when I then said something like "must be the steelers fans that are bitchin about half time show" that just sparked more comments. Ok now that a day has passed....I will agree that the sound was not great, some of the lighting on the stage didn't work, but STILL....I think they have great energy..I loved Usher too and just think over all it was a FUN half time show. I've seen better, I've seen worse.
I'm happy with the outcome because I was cheering for the packers. (only because there are steeler fans that I don't like very strongly) I know it's not the best way to pick a team..but as I said at the start, I don't really know much about football.

Let's Go To The Park
One of my favorite places from my childhood is Rothwell Park. It is located in the small town I grew up in (Moberly, Missouri). I lived just down the street, within walking distance . Before I even moved to Moberly in 4th grade my grandparents would bring me to Candy Cane City as a baby, to play on the swings and slides. I still remember the elephant slide. Looking at the pictures of Candy Cane City today, it looks like a much better playground, but what did I know back then...I was just a kid! (the photo above is back from my childhood and how I see the park in my mind today)
As I got older the ball parks and swimming pool captured my attention. I played softball on a team called Double Cola and then later went and watched the boys play baseball. The park had so much to offer..tennis courts, ball parks, lakes, hiking paths, play grounds, pool, and endless trees to sit under and get lost in my thoughts. There were hills for sledding, rocks to climb, picnic tables to visit on. I would often walk to the park alone and lay under the trees just to daydream and take in the smells and sounds of nature around me. It had a very calming effect on me. Much like the beach does for me today.
With every age growing up there were special memories of the park. Birthday parties during elementary school, meeting up at the pool in Jr High, hanging out at the ball park in high school or watching boyfriends play tennis on the tennis courts.
I think the park is what I remember most about my childhood and young adulthood.
